Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita: A new law has been added to the Indian Judicial Code from July 1. As soon as the new law came into force from July 1, an FIR was registered in Kamala Market police station of Central Delhi. Police patrolling late at night saw a young man selling water and gutkha by putting up a cart near the railway station. Immediately after this, the police registered an FIR under BNS.

The police asked the person who was sending goods by putting up a cart to move several times. But he kept ignoring the police personnel and refused to obey. After being asked several times, he went away from there citing his helplessness. The police has started investigation by registering an FIR under section 285 of BNS after finding out the name of the person. This is the first FIR registered under this law.

Changes in three laws

The Indian Judicial Code, the Indian Civil Protection Code and the Indian Evidence Act have been implemented throughout India from July 1. These laws are known as criminal laws. The Indian Penal Code was a 163-year-old law which has now been replaced by the BNS. The BNS provides for severe punishment for crimes ranging from fraud to organized crime.

The main feature of the Indian Judicial Code

Section 358 of the Indian Penal Code. Although there were 511 sections in the IPC, 21 new types of crimes have been included in it. The period of imprisonment has been increased for 41 crimes. 

The amount of fine has been increased in 82 crimes. There are 25 such crimes in the BNS which have a provision for minimum punishment. In the new law, such crimes have been included for which the punishment of social service will be given. Also, 19 sections of crime have been removed.
