Old Pension: 60000 teachers and employees in Uttar Pradesh will get old pension

UP News: Amidst the various agitations going on in Uttar Pradesh regarding the old pension, the wishes of 60000 teachers will be fulfilled. The UP government has given the teachers an opportunity to choose either the new or the old pension. After this, the option filled by the teachers will be final. After this, the employees will not be able to make any changes.

In the politics of the country, the demand for old pension has become a major election issue in Uttar Pradesh for the last few years. Congress had also made it a part of its manifesto in the last assembly elections. After this, its implementation was also started in Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan. Akhilesh Yadav also made it an issue during the 2022 assembly elections in UP. 

In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections too, the opposition had mentioned it in its manifesto. After this, promises were also made by the government to make the new pension scheme practical. But till now there is no way to bring back the old pension.

The notification came into effect on 28 March 2005

Meanwhile, 60 thousand teachers and employees in Uttar Pradesh are yet to be included in the ambit of the old pension. However, the new pension scheme was implemented in UP from 1 April 2005. The notification for this was implemented on 28 March 2005. 

There were about 60000 teachers and employees selected through special BTC and other Indians. Whose appointment was done in 2006. But its advertisement was released before the notification of the new pension was issued, so they were demanding to be included in the old pension on the basis of the advertisement.

Teachers will get benefits based on their options

The teachers argued that if the advertisement of their appointment was before the notification, hence they have full right over the old pension. There was a fight on this issue from the streets to the court. In view of such cases, the central government had issued an order to give old pension last year itself. 

In the cabinet meeting held on June 25, the Yogi government in UP has given permission to give old pension to teachers and employees appointed through advertisement before the notification. Its order was passed on June 28. 

After this, on Thursday, the Finance Department issued its order and asked the teachers to fill the option. On the basis of this option, the employees will be given all the benefits of their old pension.
